Undeniably itself, The Perks of Being a Wallflower is the indie, classic representation of high school. While some aspects are dramatized, this movie connects everyone with its snark remarks about society and friendship.

I admit, some dialogue in this movie is extremely pretentious, but I guess that's what I get for watching a 2012 movie about high school. Despite its cringey moments, I think it perfectly encapsulates the chaotic nature of life after puberty in a way that romanticizes it just enough. Its dreamlike film coloring adds to the nostalgic, old-school atmosphere that adds a whole new layer to the movie. Regardless of its faults, The Perks of Being a Wallflower resurfaces the memories and trauma of high school. This movie makes you feel much empathy for the characters, especially Charlie (Logan Lerman). The movie made me want to buy a typewriter, read books under a tree, and drive at night with the windows down. It was one hour and 45 minutes of feeling proud and grateful to be a teen.

"We accept the love we think we deserve."
"And in that moment, I swear we were infinite."
