When anyone asks me what my favorite movie is, I always answer with La La Land. The perfect cast, cinematography, soundtrack, and plot. No one can change my mind. I've seen it more times than I can count and I know every single lyric of every song. La La Land shows the greatest love story. The whole movie is a love letter to dreams; it's not a romcom. While I'm not an adult and I haven't pursued any of my dreams, I can feel Mia and Sebastians' struggles and everyone watching can relate to the joy and pain.

I have never not cried during a second or tenth viewing of La La Land (I have it on DVD). I burst into tears during two specific scenes. The first is during Mia's audition when she sings "The Fools Who Dream". The lyrics perfectly show the pain of chasing for your dream. The words just sound so beautiful together; I wish I could tattoo the whole song on me. Insert every synonym for perfect and beautiful and that's the way this song makes you feel when you are immersed in La La Land. The second time I cry is after (and during) the Epilogue sequence when Sebastian looks at Mia after he ends his piece in his jazz bar. After all those years, they look at each other and leave without saying a word. This is my favorite part because they don't end up together like every other Hollywood movie.
Along with this incredible story, the entire movie is visually epic. The colors of Mia's dresses are never the same and always vibrant. The phenomenally composed music is pouring out of the screen and camera shots are always casual yet so creative. A lot of people come to me after watching the movie and say they loved it but they wish that Mia and Sebastian ended up together. But I think that's the beauty of it.

“She captured a feeling, sky with no ceiling, the sunset inside of a frame.”
“She lived in her liquor, and died with a flicker, but I’ll always remember the flame.”
